These silos were painted by Tim Bowtell. He is the artist who painted the St James silos.
The final topic was known only to the planning committee. which created much excitement when images began to emerge. What has appeared on the central silos is an 'R' Class Steam Locomotive and grain carriages, central to the agricultural history of the town. Subsequently we saw the original train station, the annual Farmer's Picnic around the end of the 19th century, the first CFA fire truck and the Tractor Pull event.
The original German settlers established farms, built a school, a post office and community hall in what was West Colbinabbin and in 1881 the farmers agitated for a railway line to transport produce and livestock to Melbourne. In 1893 it was decided to re-establish the township closer to the train when it was realised that it would be impossible to run the railway tracks up and over the hill to the town, and this is the site of the current township.
The first trucks of grain left Colbinabbin Railway Station in 1914.
These silos are privately owned and are fully operational. The Railway line was closed in 1987.
