Flinders Ranges
This is a large gallery of photos; includes some of the highlights of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park in-a-day (via a local commercial tour). The Flinders Ranges in South Australia stretch for over 430 kilometers and the rugged peaks and gorges form some of the most beautiful landscapes in Australia. The area is rich in Aboriginal history and home to a vast array of wildlife. It incorporates the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, which was established on January 1, 1945. It is one of the earliest national parks in South Australia and is named after the explorer Matthew Flinders and comprises approximately 95,000 hectares. Also some photos at Pitchi Ritchi.

Lake Hart
Lake Hart is a salt lake situated off the Stuart Highway north of Pimba. A great stop off between Port Augusta and Coober Pedy where there is not a great deal else other than perhaps a side trip to Woomera.

So named as the mesas and low hills appear from a distance as if broken away from the main range know as the Stuart Ranges.

The Painted Desert
80 million years ago was an ancient sea bed. The land has been pushed up then eroded away to reveal the coloured shales under the surface. It is on the Arckaringa pastoral lease and is also known as The Arckaringa Hills. Situated east of the Stuart Highway between Coober Pedy and Alice Springs. Accessed via a road heading east from Cadney Homestead.

Can hardly be classified as outback Australia, being in the Southern Ocean, south-west of Adelaide, however is a place of isolation from the mainland, and has a uniqueness and tranquillity rather than ruggedness.

Mount Gambier
The Mount Gambier Crater Lakes area is made up of three main craters containing several lakes including Browne's Lake, Valley Lake, Leg of Mutton Lake and the world famous Blue Lake. The Umpherston Sink Hole is also of interest in the area. Perhaps too far south to be considered "Outback", and perhaps therefore a ring-in.
