St James Silos

23 March 2020

The St James Silos depict a mural of Sir George Coles, founder of Coles Supermarkets, who was a local to the St James township. The silo bunkers were built in 1943 with bushels of wheat originally delivered to the site via horse and cart, and this theme is depicted on the silos.
They were painted by Tim Bowden, who is local to the region. Tim started off in Graphic Design and started in painting in 2005. He has painted murals before for, however, the St James silos are the first silos he has painted.
The paintings on these massive silos are beautifully executed and are sensitive to the subject matter and also manage to blend into the small town without overwhelming it.
Since the St James project was completed Tim has commenced painting the Colbinabbin silos in March (2020) on a totally different theme and in a totally different style.
