In 2009, my good friend, June, invited me to join her on a tour of the Inland Passage on the West Coast of Canada. From there she was going to fly to New York on a once in a lifetime trip to spend some time with a friend of many years, and I decided to book a commercial bus tour of the Canadian Rockies rather than accompany her to New York. I was then living in Cairns, far north Queensland, and she was living in Melbourne. I flew to Hong Kong from Cairns, and she flew to Hong Kong from Melbourne, and we joined up on the last leg of our journey from Hong Kong to Vancouver.
The world has changed dramatically, and I am grateful for the opportunities available to me during my time travelling around Oz, and for the Canadian and New Zealand opportunities.
The Rocky Mountain photos represent some of my most breathtaking moments during this tour, covering the Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks, and an amazing helicopter trip through these rocky peaks; in Summer, so the lakes and reflections were clear, and the walking for a non skier more than manageable. I have tried to ensure that the commentaries are correct but would be happy for any of my Canadian or USA viewers to correct me if I have "got in wrong".
I can imagine how incredible these mountains and lakes would look in the ski season.
As the Covid 19 restrictions look like putting a damper on the last two trips I had planned prior to 'retiring' from these long road trips (the SA Silo trail and the NSW Silo trail), I have turned my attention to uploading some wonderful memories of this 2009 tour of The Rockies, which are included in the "Other Favourite Places" galleries on the website, along with the New Zealand photos. (Thank you to my daughter, Teresa, for inviting me to New Zealand where she was living at the time and giving me the opportunity to explore NZ).
Whether or not I get to do the remaining planned silo trips, time will tell, but at the moment I am assuming that time may well catch up with me, and it will be unlikely. Although, if the opportunity presents, I will do so. Therefore, to all visitors to my website, in Australia, and internationally, thank you for your interest. I hope you have and will continue to receive joy from the photos, whether you have travelled these journeys and are remembering, or are inspired to do so if the opportunity permits in the future.
