Hamelin Pool
Hamelin Pool is located in the world heritage listed Shark Bay region of Western Australia. The stromatolites at Hamelin Pool were created by cyanobacteria and first appeared 3.5 billion years ago when oxygen was scarce. As the colonies expanded they released oxygen to the atmosphere which led to air breathing life forms to evolve.
